Governor Ivey's Advisory Council for Excellence in STEM (ACES) |
ACES was tasked with crafting a roadmap to overcome the challenges of all children receiving quality education and enrichment in STEM career pathways. Our goal was to provide all Alabama learners with access to excellent STEM educational programming and experiences that build a solid foundation and provide opportunities for entry into the workforce. Over a six-month period, the Council focused on five priority areas critical to Alabama’s STEM education success. We identified 22 priority area recommendations that can take us there. Each recommendation is described in detail within the Roadmap, along with implementation milestones and suggested metrics for tracking our progress. In addition, the governor will establish an independent office to monitor the states progress (STEM Roadmap https://governor.alabama.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ACES-STEM-Roadmap-2019.pdf).

Alabama Mathematics Course of Study Committee |
The 2019 Alabama Mathematics Course of Study Committee and Task Force has conducted exhaustive research during the development of the approved Course of Study (December 10, 2019), analyzing mathematics standards and curricula from other states, the 2016 Revised Alabama Course of Study: Mathematics, national reports and recommendations on K-12 mathematics education, the latest NAEP Frameworks, and numerous articles in professional journals and magazines. Members attended state, regional, and national conventions to update their knowledge of current trends and issues in mathematics education. The Committee and Task Force also listened to and read statements from interested individuals and groups throughout the state, and thoroughly discussed issues among themselves and with colleagues. The Committee and Task Force reached consensus and developed what we believe to be the best Grades K-12 Mathematics Course of Study for students in Alabama’s public schools and their pathways into related career pathways.
